Emerald Dam

Emerald Dam

"The sun was rising slow and shy,
the clouds were fading passing by.
The sun was burning fair and high,
the dam was huge and fully dry.
The sun was falling from the sky,
their fate was clear,
they fought and died."

Final Arena

Final Arena

"Every day we spend scanning and exploring the lands here on Kresan, we discover weird buildings scattered all over the place. These ruins provide silent but unequivocable evidence that some civilization lived and declined a long time before our arrival. Who were they, and why they disappeared into nothing is still unknown.
Yesterday we found an impressive and well maintained building, which original purpose is a mystery. It looks like some sort of a huge round arena, surrounded by impenetrable walls: perfect to be used as a Darkstar outpost. Too bad, the Gemini found it this morning and sure they'll attack us soon. We explored the whole site in detail, granting us some strategic advantage. I think we'll fight back in the hard-way, as my tactical officer often says: 'Deliver death and pain, with a solar cannon rain.' "

Iotaca Abyss

Iotaca Abyss

"Our archaeological research about the Ancients, turned out into a major breakthrough at last. This morning we found an unexplored chamber below the ground level, connected to one of the peripherical building in the Iotaca Ruins. Following a narrow passage, steadily descending into the depth of Catamia, we finally arrived to a huge underground cave.
Awestruck, my team moved through a maze of passages and walls arising from an abyss of blackness. Now I have the unpleasant feeling that we entered in a sacred and forbidden place. A moment ago I'm sure I heard an eerie wail echoing in the distance. It spooked me, it sounded dark, full of sorrow, and... not human.
Maybe it's time to get out of here, and fast."

Bloodmoon Night

"Close your eyes and focus your mind. Feel the Darkness around you and breath it.
Listen my fellows, tonight we'll move west, undetected, and take position around the Gemini outpost. At my signal, unleash the hell over those bastards. I want the Juggernauts to bomb their loadout zones with a Solar Cannon rain. The Assassin team will patrol the area and finish the survivors who try to escape our rage. Ha! I can already smell their blood. The smell of victory!
May the Scythe reap out our enemies."

Close Contact

"I was a Newblood when I first met Jacob Kaahl. I thought this guy was either completely insane, or that he loved his Heavy armor so much because he was wearing it all the time! There were rumors he killed over an hundred of Gemini soldiers without ever requesting a Solar Cannon. At that time I didn't believe it.
The next week, at night, we were all asleep when the base alarm set off. The Gemini were attacking and breaching inside our base! We panicked because we could hear the enemy getting closer and we were not wearing any armor at all. I thought it was the end.. when Jacob, in Heavy Armor, strode past me and took place near the doorstep, firmly holding a Plasma Sabre and finally Cloaking himself. The first Gemini, in medium armor, stepped in and raised his Disc Launcher against us. Jacob popped back into view and with a deep yell sliced the enemy's back with the sabre. He was on Rage. Blood was splattering all over, while Jacob cut down the entire assault team: two more Mediums and an Heavy."

Dangerous Crossing

"Battlegrounds with plenty of open spaces are the sniper's ideal environment. The Snipers, aka 'Red Eyes', are solitary soldiers trained to hit targets from a great distance. They wear a Light Armor combined with an Energy Pack, in order to provide high mobility and to sustain the energy-hungry Sniper Rifle.
The most effective way to neutralize an enemy Sniper is to approach him from behind, with the help of a Cloak Module. You'll have to kill him in less than two seconds, or the Sniper could be able to finish you with a single direct hit. If you can, drop a mine under his feet before shoot, or backstab him with the Plasma Sabre (although the Energy Module absorbs some of the Plasma Sabre damage)."

Magma Destruction

Magma Destruction

"When fighting in closed spaces, all your tactics have to be redesigned. You should trade mobility for more fire power and endurance, by wearing Medium or Heavy armors. Spend some time selecting your weaponary: the Grenade Launcher and the Ion Gun are good choices because they can hit targets behind the corners by bouncing on the walls. If you are training in melee combat, consider the Plasma Sabre too.
Reached the grade of Sentinel, you should embrace the power of Gemini Shift. This is a definite advantage over your enemies."

"Get ready brothers! The showdown has finally come. A massive Darkstar assault is expected for the next few hours, probably at dawn. We should act immediately, taking control of the central tower before our enemies do. From there we'll setup our counterattack! I want some Snipers to provide cover, a lot of Rocketeers and Juggernauts to keep the Darkstars under heavy fire. I'll lead the elite team, we'll use the Gemini Shift to penetrate their fortress and finish them from the inside! Get ready brothers, ready for victory!

Emerald Dam

Emerald Dam

"The complex known as Emerald Dam can be found on Catamia, Sector 48, in the middle of Stonethorn valley. It's well conserved and very large, composed by five parallel stone walls spanning the entire valley from side to side. The most fascinating feature about this complex is the Ethereon, a weird green material unique to these buildings.
The halls inside the topmost dam are still filled with Ancients' powers, providing us a great source of information and speeding up the research. Although we are still wondering about the Ethereon and the role of the dams, we have found the Ancient name of the place, which translated could be 'Green Soul Gates'. We are now pretty sure it wasn't water what they stored here."

Tower of Doom

Tower of Doom

"Only a week after the Jump and the emergency landing on Kresan, I planned the first massive attack to the Gemini. They landed on Catamia, the Kresan's moon, or more correctly it's twin planet, because the two have about the same size. Our main ship, the Darkstar, was severely damaged by the landing and probably she can't take off for a long long time. Fortunately we can reach Catamia anyway, using the Short-Range Colonizer ships when the planets are aligned and close each other. The alignment is periodic and we discovered it occurs about every month.
The scan of the chosen landing site on Catamia shows strange buildings scattered all over the place. The central building, or the 'Tower of Doom' as dubbed by the scanner operator, seems a very strategic place to capture."

Belly of the Beast

"We were patrolling the hills of Sector 23, looking for any Darkstar's activity, when we first discovered the pit. A huge crack in the ground, travelling for about a mile, it is a colossal entrance to an underground cave. When we got nearer and took a look inside, we looked in awe to some sort of a temple, shining in the streak of light filtering from above. In the hope to find some Ancient's artefact, we descended into the damp darkness by means of grappling hooks and portable jet-packs.
After our eyes adapted to the dim light, we entered the temple and reached the main chamber. Unfortunately we found nothing valuable, but a singular obelisk pointing straight at the sun, blazing through a circular hole in the roof. When our scientists began the scanning of the structure, the Horde showed up and attacked us from all directions. Those damned beasts! It is time to teach'em some respect!"

"Damn! It's three days we are under siege and that bloody sandstorm continues unabated. It's really unbelievable, a whole Darkstar battalion pinned down inside the fortress, fighting day and night against the horde. They are everywhere, everytime! I don't know how many spiders we have destroyed, their corpses are now stacked in every hall and corridor.
I splitted the battalion into four squads: three guarding each fortress' entrance, and one keeping active turrets and loadout zones. When cloaked spiders penetrate our defenses, I hunt them down personally. It's a pleasure to break their biomechanical bones!
Sadly today we suffered many casualties and defending is now even harder. We must hurry, I suspect their Queen is located inside the old Gemini outpost we conquered three years ago, far to the west."

Pain Volcano

"Yesterday we lost many soldiers trying to hold our defensive line near the volcano. In the hope to locate their queen, I sent a scout squad to patrol the caves to the north. I think they found her, because they didn't come back.
Today was even worst. The volcano was quite active, spraying fireballs everywhere. The heat and the horde tired quickly my brothers and we had to retreat to our keep. It's safe, digged inside the mountain, but we are blocked inside and we can't retreat no more. We are too tired to stand against the horde.. soon they'll overrun us.
May the Lights guide our fate."

"Together with the Leo Minor, we lost the hope to get back home, and these planets are far from being a new Eden.. they are infested with unknown hostile creatures! They look like giant spiders and they are extremely aggressive and dangerous.
But Visha is gone insane, she is attacking us! She waited the proper alignment between Catamia and Kresan and landed here with the Short-Range Colonizers full of soldiers, determined to steal our deuxite stores. We detected the incoming ships and prepared for battle. Then, after two days of continuous fight, a massive spider wave attacked both factions. Visha and their Darkstar Scythe retreated and abandoned the battlefield with the SRCs. Now we are trying to keep these outposts, but the horde is attacking from everywhere and my brothers are tired and injured from the previous battle.

Underneath

Underneath

"As a result of the eruptions occured in the last months, we expected a 'volcanic winter' lasting in this region for at least 5 years. What we had not forseen although, was the extreme danger posed by blizzards and ash storms to our delicate equipments. Yesterday, my squad and I were caught by one of this storms while exploring the mountain range encompassing Sector 12. The ashes, combined with the sudden drop in temperature, blocked the air filters preventing us to breathe. Despite the limited visibility, we split up to seek a shelter.
Crawling and coughing I ventured into a nearby cave, descending into its depths, while the howls of the storm were fading away. There, buried underneath the mountains, I discovered a mysterious gate to some Ancient's shrine.
I'm not going to make even one more step, without calling for reinforcements first."

"When we arrived at the valley, the place looked perfect for establishing an outpost. The weather was damn good, the terrain lush and moreover, the Gemini didn't know about the valley yet. Typically a Scythe doesn't care if the battle ground is nice or not but.. this time we were all stunned by the magnificence of the surroundings. They reminded me the places I saw in Eastern Europe when I was a child. Home..
This morning the dream turned into a nightmare, when our outpost was attacked by countless spiders from the north. We fought bravely, crushing them with all our might and finally destroying their first wave. Come again little bastards!"

Pillar of Fathers (Tutorial DS)

[Excerpt from the record of the Darkstar high council, about the Ancient's artifact codenamed "Pillar of Fathers"]

"Enough talking! How long must we hide, while the Gemini exploit the Pillar's power? Months have passed since we discovered the artifact, and we have not done anything!"

"Calm down Scarlet, the situation is somewhat difficult. To begin with, the site is on Catamia, their planet remember? Moreover, it's far easier to steal their findings than to analyze the Pillar on our own."

"Shut up Phantom! Do you know what kind of powers that statue may hide? They're studying it for years! We must act now before is too late!"

"Well.. we have a sleeper agent down there. Two, as a matter of fact, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. I will lead this mission firsthand. Soon Scarlet, very soon."

Pillar of Fathers (Tutorial GL)

Mission ID: 19/003471
The research outpost AN-53 was built close to the site known as "Pillar of Fathers", an unique Ancient statue which is under intensive research by our scientists since its discovery on Catamia in 14 AJ. The units currently on duty at AN-53 consist of three security guards, two archaeologists and a xenobiologist: we lost contact with them some days ago.
We must find out what happened as soon as possible, although sending a fully equipped squad with the SRCs is out of question since it could draw undesiderable Darkstar's attention. We are thus forced to try out the MLD-1 prototype and "transmit" a single agent down there. However, the mass payload is severely limited and any needed equipment will have to be retrieved on the field.

Tomb of the Warlords

"They call us betrayers, bookworms, deserters, mutants, and do not understand that the continuing skirmishes between Gemini and Darkstar do nothing more than weaken and cripple our people.

We left our sides for a greater cause: to seek the path of enlightenment, and finally reach the ultimate goal through the lost knowledge of the Ancients. Some of us have already been touched by their arcane power, and this allows us to hold off the Horde and survive in the wilderness on our own.

By deciphering the inscriptions found in the Rib desert, we believe we have finally located the legendary tomb of the Warlords. We have never found anything of this size. [...]"
